This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply specialised knowledge and skills, together with experience in leadership and management, across a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

Individuals at this level use initiative and judgement to plan and implement a range of leadership and management functions, with accountability for personal and team outcomes within broad parameters.

They use cognitive and communication skills to identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources and transfer their knowledge to others, and creative or conceptual skills to express ideas and perspectives or respond to complex problems.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals with significant experience in a senior administrative role who are seeking to develop expertise across a wider range of business functions.

The qualification is suited to individuals who possess significant theoretical business skills and knowledge and wish to consolidate and build pathways to further educational or employment opportunities.

Satisfactory completion of Year 11 VCE or its equivalent overseas qualification

English Proficiency

An IELTS level of 6 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course. Results older than two years are not acceptable

In the 2 years before applying for the student visa, the student has completed, in Australia and in the English language, either the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a substantial component of a course leading to a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework at the Certificate IV or higher level, while you held a student visa;

The student has completed at least 5 years’ study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland;

or
You are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), or a registered post-graduate research course;

or
You are an applicant who is a Foreign Affairs or, Defence sponsored student or a Secondary Exchange student (AASES);

or
You are a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland.

Total duration of the qualification is 64 weeks including 4 weeks of term breaks or 1200 Hrs (800 hrs of training and 400 hrs of supervised assessment activities).

Course Duration

The AQF volume of learning of an Advanced Diploma is 1800 to 2400 hours or 1.5 year to 2 years. 

There may be variations between short duration specialist qualifications that build on knowledge and skills already acquired and longer duration qualifications that are designed as entry level requirements for work.

All teaching, learning and assessment activities that are required to be undertaken by the targeted student to achieve the learning outcomes of this qualification.

Volume of learning may be adjusted depending upon the student cohort. If students have previous relevant experience, the total volume of learning may be reduced below the Australian Qualifications Framework Indicators.

Alternatively, for new entrants or inexperienced student’s timeframes may need to be increased to allow sufficient time to acquire required skills and knowledge. (Refer to section on Reasonable Adjustment)

For this qualification:

  1. Delivery is face to face classroom under supervision from a qualified trainer and assessor. Where this delivery includes provided student notes, learning activities and guided learning.
  2. Email communication 
  3. Practical training and experience in simulated business environments allowing for training, practice, and assessment to occur in an appropriate environment (subject to units).  This environment will allow students to develop and demonstrate their skills in relation to profiling, analysis, marketing, research, and presentation-based roles within appropriate simulated situations.  During the practical sessions, enough time is allocated to students to perform the required tasks, practice their skills, reinforce their knowledge, and prepare themselves for the practical assessments.  
  4. Students are also required to undertake unsupervised home study. E.g. independent supplementary research, assessment preparation, doing assignments, independent review of delivery material, practice. (Unsupervised hours).
  5. Telephone support from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday from qualified staff employed by the institute.
  6. The total number of hours from the supervised hours + unsupervised hours = the amount of learning required for the student to achieve the learning outcomes of this qualification.

RPL / Credit Transfer

Students with prior learning and work experience can apply for RPL. Recognition of prior learning evidence must include but not limited to, of the following:

Students who have completed corresponding units of competency and/or units contained within the packaging rules can apply for Credit Transfer.

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods used for this qualification will provide a range of ways for individuals to demonstrate that they have met the required outcomes including:

  • Written Questions and Answers

  • Simulations
  • Observations

At the beginning of each unit, trainers will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.

Unless otherwise specified, Total course fees include all the training and assessment as well as required resources and textbooks for participants to achieve the qualification or course in which they are enrolling.

Learner Support

Learner needs will be identified through enrolment form, face to face or over the phone interview, LLN and Pre-training review. 

It will help to establish the applicant skill and knowledge levels, their current employment and how that relates to the course content and interaction. 

Where additional support needs have been identified an Individual Support Plan will be developed which may include: 

  • Language Literacy Numeracy Support
  • Mentoring from trainers
  • Additional classes, tutorials, and workshops
  • Computer and technology support 
  • Reasonable adjustment to assessments 

Provision of additional support services will be provided where necessary to enable students to participate in the same way as any other person regardless of whether support services have been required

Pathways

Educational pathway

Students in BSB60420 – Advanced diploma of Leadership and Management may continue their education by undertaking Advance Diploma or other Diploma courses from BSB Training Package or pursuing bachelor’s in business

Exit Pathway

Students obtaining a competency for all units in this course will be awarded the full qualification BSB60420 – Advanced diploma of Leadership and Management, which would include Certificate and Record of Result. Students not obtaining a competent result for all units in this course or leaving the course in middle will receive a Statement of Attainment. Indicating the actual number of units, they achieve competency.
